The ‘At Incident’ communications survey is now complete having circulated the survey through all CFOs on two occasions. These surveys have identified that, the hand portable terminals in use nationally are fit for purpose and generally represent current technology, there is a requirement to standardise radio voice procedures nationally, there is a need to refresh users on the limitations of back to back UHF communications in areas of range, capabilities within structural buildings, best practice around charging, general use etc. and common training protocols need to be developed on a national basis.
Ctrí has opened some initial discussion with suppliers in terms of development, specifically in terms of range extension, of this technology. Also with the introduction of Tetra radios nationally and the development of revised Department Guidelines on Radio Voice Procedures there is an opportunity to address the above procedural and operational practise issues in parallel with roll out of Tetra and this work is ongoing.
